Michael Weiss, Owner of Michael Weiss Designs

I am driven by a passion to understand the ways that human beings interact with one another and the world around them, both physically and energetically. The flow of our energy is profoundly affected by the spaces we inhabit, by their shape, color and texture.

Nothing is more important to me than listening to my clients, understanding the rooms they want to transform and helping them to articulate and realize their vision.

The success of a project also depends on professional Project Management, understanding how to organize and sequence a Project, how to communicate honestly and clearly with clients, establishing realistic expectations and holding to appropriate deadlines.

As a senior professional I have developed this perspective and skills over a lifetime of Designing and Building Furniture, Cabinetry and Architectural Woodwork.

I was the Founding Principal of Interior Dimensions, LLC. an Award Winning Company, Designing and Building Premium Architectural Woodwork from 1990 to 2010, providing a full range of services from Design through Installation, focusing on high end residential work.

Our work has been published multiple times in New England Home, Arts and Crafts, Boston Magazine Home Design and Boston Globe Magazine. We were awarded First Place in the Luxury Living Awards for Contemporary Kitchen and also First Place for Contemporary Bathroom.

As a young man I designed and built tables and beds sold wholesale through furniture stores in Boston and Cambridge.

I have also worked as a Special Education Teacher in both private and public schools, including Charles River Academy in Cambridge and Weston High School in Weston, MA. I have taught woodworking through the Cambridge Center for Adult Education and was Certified in Massachusetts as a Vocational Education Teacher.

The Three Pillars of a Successful Project

Design, Craftsmanship and Project Management are the three pillars of a successful project. Sometimes Project Management is not afforded equal footing, but without effective communication, proper planning and documentation—without setting clear expectations and a sensible schedule—a beautiful project can be sabotaged by a destructive process. Listening to a client and understanding and honoring their concerns is an essential element in realizing their vision.

Inspiration

We know that we have favorite places in our homes, at work and in nature. Understanding what makes them special enables us to use that information in creating good spaces in our homes that enrich our lives and our relationships, encouraging stillness, quiet, peace as well as relationship and community.

Michael recently was involved in a renovation where I was Project Manager.  He provided the fabrication and installation of the Fireplace Mantel and Surround, the Built-in Bookcases in addition to customized Closet Systems.

Besides providing exactly what the owner was looking for in each area, Michael was just a pleasure to work with. He checked in with plans and details to make sure everyone was on the same page, provided detailed quotes and remained in contact about the progress.

Simply put, he gets the management and process that goes into a job and works to make that process easier. I encourage you to reach out to Michael if you have cabinetry and millwork needs.

The Cherry Display is a thing of beauty, brilliantly executed. We love the clean look. Guests always comment on it and want to know it's back story, figuring that it's unique, asymmetrical design had to be custom made.

We enjoy it each and every day, and I can't thank you enough for your time, talent, and creativity. Plus, you're a really nice guy with a passion for good design. I always admire the artist -- that's why I work in an art museum!

Michael has creative vision and worked closely with us to redesign our bedroom. The new design is serene and soothing and opens up the room. We wake up every morning to a room that is light and airy with a soothing feng shui that eases us into the day.

Michael's wood working and craftsmanship are impeccable. He constructed two new built-in dressers with integrated hanging space, reconfigured our existing closet and built and installed a shoe cabinet. The result is stunning.

What a fantastic job you did integrating the new section with our existing cabinets. Nes and I want you to know how much we love and enjoy working in our “new” Kitchen.

I really appreciate your taking the time to come up with a plan and making such good recommendations. The space is a pleasure to work in. Thank you and your helpers for doing such a wonderful job.

We can't tell you how much we enjoy our new Kitchen!  The Hutch you designed is the “centerpiece” of the room. Visitors see it and would like to have it in their own home.

Your ideas have meant a lot in transforming our Kitchen from its old self to a much newer, more pleasant and up-to date room, both in appearance and function.

Thank you for your helpful ideas and excellent workmanship.

With gratitude, David Crandall
